Performer
Dimitra Thomaidou (she/her) was born in Serres, Greece.
She studied Philosophy at Ioannina University (BA 2001-2006) and Theater History & Acting at National and Kapodistrian University of Athens / Delos Drama School (BA 2008-2012). Since 2013, she is based in Berlin and she has worked as an assistant director and collaborator in dramaturgy, as well as a performer in several projects, included among others the performance Ich suche den Menschen (2013) by Elia Verganelaki in Akademie der Künste, Oresteia (2014) by Iannis Xenakis directed by David Hermann and contacted by Moritz Gnann in Deutsche Oper in Berlin and the theater play Die Dunkelkammer (2015) by Kostis Kallivretakis in Ballhaus Naunynstraße. She did postgraduate studies in Cultural Management in DAM (2021) and, additionally, she finished her Master studies in Theater Dramaturgy at HfMT Theater Academy in Hamburg (M.Arts 2020-2022).
Characterized by her transcultural perspectives and interdisciplinary approaches, her work focuses on visibility of feminine and queer community thematics and applies to the areas of participatory theater and political theater.
Among other productions she has worked together with the director Anestis Azas on the documentary theater production Bloody, Medium oder Durch (2016), the drag performer Bishop Black on Becoming my Body project (2018), with the choreographer and dancer Raphael Hillebrand on Tagtäglich Tanzen (2019) and with the actor Michail Fotopoulos on the solo performance Splitter (2019).
One of her recent collaborations as a dramaturg is Power Shame by Yannis Karalis - a tribute to the taboo emotion of shame from a queer angle that premiered as a solo dance performance in DOCK11 (2022) and she cooperated again the same year with Yannis Karalis at FOLK, a research project that investigates the emotion of shame on a collective scale e.g. how a group of people or a country experiences shame. She has also worked together with the Twin Flames Ensemble on the transcultural music series In der Nachbarschaften der Welt that took place during Spring 2022 at Prachtwerk Berlin. She collaborated with the ._mootpoint artistic collective on the White On White sound performance that has been presented at Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz in the context of BAM! Musik Theater Festival 2022 and in SIGNALS a performance in augmented reality space.
Her personal research the past years developed with her thesis Management Strategies for Digital Cultural Institutes, she continued with her dramaturgy thesis The Dramaturgy of the Dead Female Body|Femicide Is Not Poetic and currently she works on Rolling in the Deep project - a dramedy performance that seeks the contemporary multi-heroine in relation with the feminine anger and the representation of the feminine attitude in relation to social unfairness.
Since 2022 is a co-founder and co-artistic director of ALANA.
At times, she writes short stories, plays, essays, poems and love letters.
She likes to explore human nature, to question and challenge herself and to share new ideas.
